🙏❤️☝️ too cool for school
Sounds a Scottish song
Thanks so much for posting! ❤
Glad you enjoyed it!
One of the best anti-war songs ever written!
At University in 1975 I was woken in the night by someone in the next room playing this song at full volume. I've been haunted by it ever since. A welcome haunting! And what a spine-tingling performance this is.
Glad you enjoyed this clip.
A movie by the same title dealt with Gay son.
Just beautiful.. also as it’s now a cold January ..she has a gorgeous about 2 min song “In the winter “ which is a gem .. Thank you Janis for such thoughtful lyrics and your gorgeous singing ..❤
subterranean homesick blues the next generation
another level
2023 she is still sublime.
Never known her before. It brought tears thinking of my beloved brother.
She wrote is for me all those years ago!
That's the slow down in ireland
One of her best
I remember sitting on the floor listening to Janis and singing along she was me or I was her, my favorite was In the winter, I still sit on the floor singing along at the top of my lungs!! Love you Janis!
I love Janis Ian music!
Love this song! Janis Ian is great.
30 years easily since listening to Between the Lines - my god, remembered every word and every emotion from all those years ago. So beautiful and real both in the syrup of the memories but the beauty of the time she takes me back to. She really was the voice that told me, in all that teenage angst, that I was not alone. I am admonishing myself now for letting it go.
And now, slowly, over so many years, that day got here, didn't it..
Great song I enjoyed years ago and it’s been great to hear it again! Idaho gal
With MIDI automation it’s difficult to change tempo and meter the way she does here. Not impossible, but it goes against the grain.
You can tell songwriters who read poets. Right away. The directness of emotion and reality all at once.
this song just get better every time i play it that once a week
I always love to see these biscuits from the time period. They bring back so many memories of a decade that gave us so much in the way of varied and beautiful, memorable sounds.
You are doing so well thank you Janis. Idaho gal!
The Delivery of those lyrics is superb and captivates everytime without fail .Janis Ian is such a talented lady 🎶🎤🎸✨👌
Nearly all of Janis's songs strike a chord so deeply in me ... some bring me almost to the point of tears! She is simply 100% wow!
All her songs are hauntingly beautiful and yet heart-wrenching. I love the double-entendre of “morning” and “mourning.” “It’s a long, long time ‘til mourning lays wasted on the dawn.” Wow!
How have I never heard this before? ❤
I love you so much.
This song is too short!
I don't want to ride the milk train any more I'll go to bed at nine, and waken with the dawn And lunch at half past noon Dinner prompt at five The comfort of a few old friends long past their prime Pass the tea & sympathy For the good old days long gone Let's drink a toast to those who most Believe in what they've won It's a long long time 'til morning Plays wasted on the dawn I'll not write another line, For my true love is gone And when the guests have done I'll tidy up the room I'll turn the covers down And gazing at the moon Will pray to go quite mad And live in long ago When you and I were one, so very long ago Pass the tea & sympathy For the good old days long gone Let's drink a toast to those who most Believe in what they've won It's a long long time 'til morning Plays wasted on the dawn I'll not write another line, For my true love is gone And when I have no dreams To give you any more, I'll light a blazing fire And wait within the door, And throw my life away "I wonder why?" they all will say And now I lay me down to sleep, Forever and a day Pass the tea & sympathy For the good old days are dead Let's drink a toast to those who best Survived the life they've led It's a long long time 'til morning, So build your fires high Now I lay me down to sleep, Forever by your side

Janis Ian at 17. Her singing style back then reminds me of Tim Buckley and Melanie.
Whod'da thought?
Yes, and who'da ever been ready for it.
I wonder why her songs aren't on Sirius "The Bridge" which is a songwriters channel like James Taylor, etc. I guess because a lot of her songs are sad. But she should be on there. My wife knew of her, I just remember her songs but not the name of the singer. Masterful singer.
"The comfort of a few old friends well past their prime'
When a voice, a mic, and a guitar are all you need to move an audience.
Where's the recording fixer upper to make the words audible?
Virtuoos! I bow to your talent Janis, André Gerritsen, Holland
Wish she had a duet with john denver...
What's funny,Janis sings about how ugly she was in school. I don't know who she was looking at in the mirror, but I always thought she was gorgeous.
hey cutie. whatcha doin'?
Between the Lines....one ALBUM that impacted my soul
My favorite gal !!💕
I was 10 yrs old in 1968 and I totally agree with you. If I could go back and relive it, I would do it in a heartbeat.
Beautiful young woman and magical voice.
Her talent and look are awesome. But her voice, soulfulness really take me back to a meaningful era.
Hello I grew up listening to her thanks to my mom - is this on any records ? Other than movie soundtrack ? Thanks
Hi Michael. Nice to meet you. Sorry, just on the film. No recordings available.
